Quick answer

Quick answer: DevOps consulting is an assessment of how your code gets from a developer's machine to production, followed by the work to make that path faster and safer: pipelines, environments, infrastructure as code, release process, and monitoring. A delivery assessment takes 2 to 3 weeks and costs $1,000 to $3,920 at our rates. A full pipeline build runs 4 to 10 weeks.

Most teams do not need a DevOps philosophy. They need releases that do not require a Saturday, environments that match production, and a way to know within minutes that something broke.

NewAgeSysIT has been building and running delivery pipelines for more than 30 years of software work, from Princeton, New Jersey. We assess, we build, and where you want it, we run the pipeline with you.

What Changed in 2026: Faster, and Less Stable

AI changed the shape of the problem. DORA's research found that around 90% of professionals now use AI at work, and that AI adoption raises delivery throughput while also raising delivery instability. Its 2024 model estimated roughly a 7.2% drop in delivery stability for every 25% rise in AI adoption, and the 2025 study found that negative relationship persisting even as throughput improved.

Faros AI · 2026

Telemetry from Faros AI in 2026 put numbers on the consequence: incidents per pull request rose sharply in teams' highest AI-use periods compared with their lowest, and more pull requests were merged without review.

The conclusion is not "use less AI." It is that AI amplifies whatever delivery system you already have. A team with strong tests, small changes, and fast rollback gets faster. A team without them gets faster at producing incidents. DevOps work is what converts raw speed into safe speed, and that is what this page is about.
DORA metrics

The Five Measures We Work Against

DORA's metrics expanded from four to five, grouped into two factors. We baseline these before an engagement and report them after.

Factor Metric What it tells you
ThroughputDeployment frequencyHow often you successfully ship to production
ThroughputChange lead timeTime from commit to running in production
ThroughputFailed deployment recovery timeHow long you need to recover when a release goes wrong
InstabilityChange failure rateShare of releases that cause a failure needing a fix or rollback
InstabilityDeployment rework rateShare of work that is redoing something already shipped
Half the picture

If a vendor promises to improve deployment frequency without talking about the instability pair, they are promising you half the picture. Shipping more often while breaking more often is not progress.

What We Do

Security checks inside the pipeline are a related but separate service, covered on our DevSecOps services page, and most clients add them once the pipeline itself is reliable.

CI/CD

CI/CD: What a Good Pipeline Looks Like

A pipeline is not a tool choice, it is a sequence of decisions about what must be true before code moves forward.

Laptop screen showing source code in an editor during a pipeline change review
  1. 01

Continuous integration. Every commit builds, runs unit and integration tests, and reports in minutes rather than hours. Broken builds stop the line instead of accumulating.

  2. 02

Continuous delivery. Every successful build produces a deployable artifact, versioned and traceable, so releasing is a decision rather than a project.

  3. 03

Continuous deployment, where it fits. Automatic promotion to production once gates pass. This suits products with strong test coverage and fast rollback, and it does not suit every system, which is a judgment we make with you rather than a default.

  4. 04

Platform-specific builds. AWS pipelines with CodePipeline and CodeBuild, Azure DevOps pipelines, GCP Cloud Build, or tool-agnostic pipelines in GitHub Actions and GitLab CI, including multi-cloud and hybrid setups.

  5. 05

Custom workflows beyond application code. Infrastructure deployment, database migrations, data pipeline promotion, scheduled operations work, and self-healing routines for the systems that wake people up at night.

The work that most often gets skipped: rollback that has actually been tested, environment parity, and build times short enough that developers do not start batching changes to avoid waiting.

Rollout

Implementation and Rollout

Changing how a team ships is an organizational project as much as a technical one, which is why the rollout has its own sequence.

  1. Baseline

Current metrics, release history, incident log, and the three things the team complains about most

  2. Design

Target pipeline, environment model, branching and release strategy, and the gates that will block a release

  3. Pilot

One service or one team moved onto the new pipeline, proving the pattern before it spreads

  4. Rollout

Remaining services migrated in waves, with documentation and pairing rather than a handover document

  5. Enablement

Training, runbooks, and on-call practice so your team owns it

  6. Review

Metrics compared against baseline at 30 and 90 days, with the next round of improvements prioritized

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is DevOps consulting?

DevOps consulting is an expert review of how your software gets from commit to production, plus the plan to improve it. It covers pipelines, environments, infrastructure, release process, monitoring, and team practices, and it ends with prioritized work rather than a philosophy document.

How much do DevOps services cost?

At our rates, an assessment runs $1,000 to $3,920, a CI/CD pipeline build $3,000 to $15,680 per application, infrastructure as code migration $2,500 to $14,700, and managed DevOps $3,000 to $15,680 a month. Fixed-price quotes follow the assessment.

How long does a DevOps engagement take?

Two to three weeks for an assessment, four to ten weeks for a pipeline build, and four to eight weeks for an infrastructure as code migration. Rollout across multiple teams usually runs in waves over a quarter or two.

What are the DORA metrics, and do they still matter?

They are now five: deployment frequency, change lead time, and failed deployment recovery time measure throughput, while change failure rate and deployment rework rate measure instability. They still matter, and they matter more with AI in the mix, because throughput can rise while stability falls.

Has AI made DevOps easier or harder?

Both. DORA found around 90% of professionals using AI at work, with adoption raising throughput and instability together, and its earlier modelling estimated about a 7.2% stability drop per 25% rise in AI adoption. AI amplifies the delivery system you have, so the fix is stronger gates, smaller changes, and tested rollback.

Do you work with AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud?

Yes, including hybrid and multi-cloud setups. Pipelines are built with CodePipeline, Azure DevOps, Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins, depending on where your code and infrastructure already live.

Can you set up CI/CD for an existing application?

Yes, and that is the most common engagement. We start with build and test automation, add a deployable artifact and environment parity, then introduce deployment automation and rollback once the earlier stages are trustworthy.

Do we need Kubernetes?

Often not. Managed container services or straightforward cloud runtimes cover most workloads with far less operational burden. We recommend Kubernetes when scale, portability, or workload complexity genuinely justify it, and we will say when it does not.

What is infrastructure as code, and why does it matter?

It means your environments are defined in version-controlled files rather than built by hand, so they can be recreated, reviewed, and rolled back like application code. It is the single change that most reduces "it works in staging" problems.

Can you take over an existing pipeline?

Yes. We audit what exists, stabilize the parts that are failing, document it, then improve it in sequence. Replacing a working pipeline wholesale is rarely the right first move.

Do you offer managed DevOps rather than a project?

Yes. A managed engagement covers pipeline maintenance, environment and infrastructure changes, monitoring, release support, and improvement work, against agreed service levels and reported metrics.

How do you measure whether DevOps work paid off?

Against the five DORA metrics plus two practical ones: cloud spend per environment and hours of unplanned work per month. Those last two are usually what leadership actually feels.

Where does DevOps end and DevSecOps begin?

DevOps gets changes to production quickly and safely. DevSecOps adds security checks and policy to that same pipeline: dependency and secret scanning, infrastructure policy, and gates that block vulnerable releases. Most teams build the pipeline first and add the security layer once it is stable.
